Our first time in Rome together was fantastic. We first visited the Pantheon, which we loved. We rang for accommodation from the square in front of it, Piazza della Rotunda, and I remember having a total coughing fit trying to talk to the person at the hotel! Anyway we got something right near the Campo die Fiori, which turned out to be quite nice. We went back to the Pantheon later.  Totally amazing to be still intact after nearly 1900 years. We also looked at Piazza Navona and the monument to Vittorio Emmanuel II.

On the Tuesday we made our way to the Spanish Steps in the morning, and thence to the Vatican. We went inside and saw the Sistine Chapel, along with all the other amazing rooms and halls and passages. The interior of St Peter’s blew me away - I think Jen had already seen it. We climbed to the top and took in the view from the roof. Interestingly, all the sculptures of figures along the top of the facade are only properly finished on the front of them, because only that side is visible from below.

On Wednesday we checked out the Trevi Fountain, plus the Colosseum and also the Forum, all fantastic.

That night we had dinner in the Campo dei Fiori, and we decided to move in together!

Thursday was our last day of the trip. We had a bit of time before we had to fly out, so we went back to the Pantheon again, and bought a final ice cream - pictured.

It really was a wonderful trip.
