1992 Europe was a very special trip for us because it was our first overseas trip
together, and my (John’s) first overseas trip ever. In ‘omage to the brave D-day
heroes, I landed in France at dawn on the 6th June. Jen came in from Barcelona a
few hours later, and we met at our hotel in Paris’s Latin Quarter mid-morning, in
time to celebrate most of Jen’s birthday together. Jen had been at a conference there
with her colleague Louise. We stayed a couple of wonderful days in Paris and then
caught a train to Venice. From there we went to Bologna, Florence and Sienna, then
on to Pompeii, Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast and finally to Rome, where we spent a wonderful
few days. Because it was the first of our many fantastic trips overseas together,
we’ve called it Primo Duo. Much of the trip is now lost in the mists of time, but
we still remember a fair bit of it, and we’ve put down our recollections on the following
pages.
